Dreams, numbers, names, signs — none of them are a path. They are things to be returned, gently, to the ground.


You sent me a list — a dream, a recurring number, a diagram of the sefirot, a feeling you cannot place — and you asked me to read it. I am going to do something that may disappoint you. I am going to hand the list back.

Not because these things are nothing. Because they are not a path, and treating them as one will lead you in circles. Whatever rises in you — bring it back down to the order that can test it. That returning is the whole discipline.

Why I will not interpret

I will not read your dream or your number, and I want you to understand why, so it does not feel like coldness. To interpret your signs would be to confirm a way of seeking that floats free of the ground — that looks for the answer in symbols rather than in duties.

It would also be a lie of confidence. No honest person can decode a stranger's dream into a directive. The tradition treats this realm with great caution for exactly this reason, reserving the hidden things for those already mature and grounded. I will not pretend to an authority I do not have.

The return

Here is what to do with the list instead. For each item, ask one question: what plain obligation does this point me back toward? Prayer kept on time. Speech made honest. A kindness no longer postponed. Let the strange material resolve, always, into ordinary order. That is how the tradition keeps the deep from becoming the unhinged.

And the diagram, the names, the structures you are studying — set them down until a living teacher who knows you can guide that learning in its proper season. Not a screen. A person, in a room, who will keep you on the ground while you learn to look up.
